Every employer under the Health & Safety at Work etc Act1974 has a general duty to provide such information, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health & safety at work of their employees.
The information and training should be repeated periodically where appropriate, be adapted to take account of any new or changed risks to the health & safety of the employees concerned, and take place in working hours.
Employers should give particular attention to the training requirements of newly recruited employees. They should receive basic induction training on health and safety including first-aid, fire and emergency evacuation.
It is important to understand that health and safety “training” is not just about simply passing on information, it must assist people in their learning and understanding of the subject.
