Health Surveillance Services
What is Health Surveillance?
Health surveillance is used to monitor the health of those people who have been identified as being 'at risk' because of the task they perform, the substances they use or may be exposed to or the environment in which they work. The purpose of health surveillance is to:
- Protect the health of the individual employee
- Detect any adverse health effects at an early stage
- Assist in the evaluation of control measures
- Assist management in complying with statutory Health & Safety legislation, i.e. regulation 11 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
When is health surveillance necessary?
Employers have a duty to carry out health surveillance where any employee is at risk from:
- Substances known to cause dermatitis and occupational asthma.
- A wide variety of solvents, chemicals, fumes, dust and biological agents
- Noisy environments
- Work with vibrating tools or equipment
- Night shift work
